The Yellow Wallpaper

Based on Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s haunting short story, The Yellow Wallpaper Opera is a new work by composer Brooke deRosa with a libretto by Diana Farrell. Through a compelling fusion of music and storytelling, the opera follows a woman whose isolation and confinement begin to blur the boundaries between reality and the imagination.

Dark, atmospheric, and psychologically intimate, the opera explores themes of mental confinement, autonomy, and the consequences of a society that refuses to listen. With mesmerizing music and a gripping narrative, The Yellow Wallpaper Opera offers a deeply immersive theatrical experience.

The Yellow Wallpaper Opera premiered with Lyric Opera of Orange County in October 2025 before traveling to Carnegie Hall in New York City in January 2026.
